How to Combat Anxiety with These 7 Life-Changing Bible Verses
How can we combat anxiety healthily and effectively as Christians? Where does anxiety come from? Why do we have it? These are questions many of us quietly wrestle with in our hearts, especially during seasons of uncertainty or hardship. Anxiety is not just a modern issue—it’s a human one.
Anxiety can come in a different forms, and at some point in your life, you’ve felt it. Maybe you don’t struggle with it like you used to, but it is definitely something you’ve experienced at least once—we all have. But as Christians, we can rejoice because we’re not left powerless to it! Scripture acknowledges our anxious hearts, one verse saying, “Do not be anxious about anything…” (Philippians 4:6).
This scripture is used as a reminder that we have access to peace, no matter what the world says. I know it can be difficult to think otherwise or actively do otherwise, but when the Bible says “Do not be anxious about anything…” it means ANYTHING. That includes your bills, your health, your relationships; any and all of it.
Let’s talk more about it, and I’ll also give you 7 life-changing scriptures you can use to combat anxiety immediately—let’s get into it.
God, I ask that you prepare the person reading this—prepare their heart to hear this message and fully receive it, so that they may know true peace through You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

How to Find Peace
Peace—although we may think it is—actually is not that hard to find. Why? Because we have access to peace through Jesus.
Yes, girl—through Jesus alone, we can find the peace we need to rest and be freed from anxiety. Isn’t that amazing? Jesus said in John 14:27 (NIV), “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
What a wonderful thing it is to be able to rest and not be troubled, just through Jesus! Amen? You don’t have to be rich, win a metal, be a star; all you need is Jesus. That means anyone can find peace because of Him. Anyone willing to seek Him can find all the peace they need in life, with literally anything.
No amount of money, cars, jewelry, or food can leave you feeling completely, forever at peace—you have to have Jesus. These things are pointless without Him—everything is pointless without Him. When you shift your focus to Him rather than earthly things, you’ll find purpose, meaning, and eternal life along with peace. Shift your focus to He who knows all; let Him guide you and help calm your troubled heart and mind.
So, today—right here and now—take your fears, worries, and anxieties to Him. Lay them at His feet in prayer, and fill your mind with His truth. Remove all of the worst-case scenarios and “what ifs” from your mind, and instead fill your body (your temple) with God’s Word and His truth.
A Prayer to Guide You
If you’re unsure of how to surrender your worries to God, try this prayer:
Heavenly Father,
You see the weight I’ve been carrying—every fear, every anxious thought, every silent tear. Please carry these burdens for me, so that I may rest in peace and be free of worry and anxiety. My heart is heavy, Lord. I wasn’t meant to carry all of this alone, and I see that now. Please Father—lift the weight of anxiety from my shoulders and fill me with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Help me to trust You fully, to rest in Your presence, and to walk in freedom from fear. Quiet the noise in my mind, Lord, and calm the storm within me. Let Your peace surround me like a shield. In Jesus’ name, amen.
By openly confessing that you weren’t meant to carry all of your burdens all alone, you’re not only being honest with God, but you’re aligning your heart with His truth. That’s exactly what you need to do.
The Bible says, “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). This prayer walks you through that very process. It helps you shift from self-reliance to God-dependence—from trying to fix everything on your own to allowing the peace of Christ to fill the spaces where anxiety once lived in your life.
7 Life-Changing Scriptures to Combat Anxiety
Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
1 Peter 5:7 (ESV)
“Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”
Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Matthew 6:34 (NIV)
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Psalm 94:19 (NIV)
“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.”
John 14:27 (NIV)
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Romans 8:38-39 (NLT)
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love… neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow.”
These seven scriptures provide powerful reminders that we are not alone in our struggles with anxiety. They encourage us to bring our worries to God through prayer, trust in His constant presence and strength, and focus on the present instead of fearing the future.
Real Talk: My Personal Experience with Anxiety
Anxiety hasn’t just been a word in my vocabulary—it’s been a battle in my body, mind, and spirit. I’ve experience anxiety attacks before, without realizing what was going on. For a long time, I didn’t even realize that what I was feeling had a name. I just thought I was “overthinking” or being “too sensitive.”
But in reality, I was constantly living in a state of tension.
My heart would race over the smallest things, and for years I struggled with heart palpitations and migraines. I’d lie awake at night replaying old (like, really old—it’s a bit embarrassing) conversations, worrying about what tomorrow would bring, and feeling a constant tightness in my chest that wouldn’t let up. Hypothetical situations tortured me. “What ifs” kept me restless.
It’s almost as if I could actually feel it killing me, ever so slowly. Death by emotional/mental torture.
I remember one season when everything felt out of control. Life was uncertain, relationships were rocky and broken, and I was spiraling. I would pray, but even my prayers felt frantic—like I was begging God to fix everything overnight, or to pull off some impossible task. The peace I read about in scripture felt out of reach and fictional, and I started to wonder if there was something wrong with me spiritually. Was God not able to hear me? Was Jesus not within me?
But here’s the truth: anxiety doesn’t mean you’re distant. It means you’re human. Even Jesus, in the Garden of Gethsemane, experienced deep distress—and I mean DEEP distress. Jesus experienced so much stress that he was sweating blood at one point! That realization changed everything for me. I stopped beating myself up for feeling anxious and started inviting God into the anxious moments instead. Not freaking out, but gently breathing and saying, “Lord, be with me.”
It didn’t disappear overnight. There were still hard days. But slowly, I began to notice a shift in my life and my mood. When I started meditating on scriptures about God’s peace, speaking truth over my fears, and allowing myself to rest in His presence rather than striving for perfection—something broke. Not all at once, but enough for me to start breathing again. Enough to know that healing is possible.
Affirmations of Peace (Rooted in Scripture)
God’s peace guards my heart and mind.
“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:7
I will not be shaken, because God is with me.
“I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.” — Psalm 16:8
Jesus gives me peace, not fear.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” — John 14:27
God is my refuge—I can rest in Him.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1
I cast all my anxiety on God, because He cares for me.
“Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7
I will lie down and sleep in peace.
“In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” — Psalm 4:8
God’s perfect love drives out my fear.
“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” — 1 John 4:18
Practical Ways to Combat Anxiety Daily
Creating a physical “peace corner” in your home can be surprisingly impactful. It doesn’t have to be elaborate—a soft chair, a warm light, your Bible, a candle or plant. The goal is to create a sacred, comforting space where you can go when anxiety starts to rise. Over time, your body begins to associate that space with calm, making it easier to reset when your mind feels out of control.
Even something as ordinary as drinking water can become a sacred moment. Each time you pour a glass, pause and remind yourself that you are being refreshed by the Living Water. Whisper John 4:14: “The water I give will become a spring welling up to eternal life.” Simple rituals like this anchor your soul to God throughout the day.
Another tool you can try is the “3-2-1 Reset.” When anxiety is climbing, stop and notice three things around you that are beautiful or calming. Then take two deep, slow breaths. Finally, speak one verse aloud, like Psalm 56:3: “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” This helps calm your nervous system while fixing your mind on truth.
At night, instead of trying to write out long prayers or journal entries (which isn’t bad, but there’s a time and place, and it’s NOT when you’re spiraling), try this: write one sentence to God that begins with “Today I give You…” and finish the sentence with whatever is weighing on your heart. Over time, you’ll build a powerful record of surrender, even on the hardest days. Sometimes longer entries can be peace, and sometimes you may be pressuring yourself so much that they bring more stress—find a balance.
Finally, try creating an “Anxiety Box.” Use a small container or decorative box, and whenever anxious thoughts arise, write them on slips of paper and place them inside. Label the box “God’s Inbox.” It’s a physical act of letting go—of choosing to trust that what overwhelms you is already in His hands.
