A Devotional on Humility: Learning to Walk Humbly With God
Humility is one of those things that sounds cute in church… until God actually asks you to walk it out. Kind of like forgiveness, am I right?
Because let’s be honest — being humble doesn’t always feel good. Sometimes it feels like biting your tongue when you want to clap back. Sometimes it feels like apologizing first. And, sometimes it feels like choosing obedience when your pride is screaming, “Nope. Not doing that.”
And sometimes humility is simply admitting to God, “Lord, I do NOT have it together as much as I pretend I do.”
James 4:10 says, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
I’ve read this verse so many times, but the part that hits me lately is this: I have to choose to lower myself before God before He does the lifting.
Humility isn’t God humiliating you.
It’s you willingly placing yourself in His hands.
If you’ve been feeling heavy lately — stretched thin, overwhelmed, or like you’re carrying more than you should — maybe God is nudging your heart toward humility. Not to break you, but to free you.
Lay down the pressure.
Lay down the control.
Lay down the pride that says you have to be “the strong one.”
God already knows you’re human. He’s not shocked, I promise you. He’s not disappointed. He’s not expecting perfection — just surrender.
